She was a radio DJ, he was a street hustler with a savvy for business. Vee Jay was the brainchild of Vivian Carter and Jimmy Bracken (hence the “V” and the “J”) – an African American husband and wife team that broke barriers and bank accounts in the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s as pioneers in the record business. There are so many things about V-J that were special that it’s hard to sum up in a few words. Vee Jay Records is a legendary blues, jazz and gospel label out of Chicago that had an amazing run.
